Member Spotlight: Alex Steele
Tell us about yourself! Hometown, where you work, important people in your life, how you enjoy spending your free time etc.
I grew up in Fort Worth, TX and the dream was to always end up in Colorado in some way. That came true when I was able to move to Boulder in 2019 to start grad school at CU! Today, I work as a Product Designer at CrossFit where I design experiences on CrossFit.com and the Games app. I love what I do! I married my wife Ashlyn in 2021 and we just celebrated our 1 year anniversary. When we're not working or traveling, you can find us outside with our dogs, playing trivia Tuesday nights at Rayback, or hiking.
What's your background in sport/fitness/movement?
I grew up always involved in sports and playing soccer. I started CrossFit in 2016 because I missed the coaching and technique that sports provided growing up. Today, I don't play soccer anymore but enjoy skiing in the winter time! CrossFit keeps me feeling challenged and reminds me that there's always room for growth and improvement, which I love.
What's your favorite thing about being a member at Sanitas?
I love the environment at Sanitas, the balance between being an approachable CrossFit gym but still striving towards excellence. Everyone is welcoming no matter where you are in your fitness journey, but it's also a place that pushes and encourages you to be the best version of yourself.
What are your favorite CrossFit movements?
My favorite movement would have to be a good Power Clean complex. Lately, I've been really enjoying Push Jerk movements in workouts. I know the question didn't ask for my least favorite movement, but it's hand-down burpees and terrible variations of burpees that involve adding even more things to them.
What do you like to do when you’re not in the gym?
When not at the gym I enjoy spending time outdoors or with friends. You can also find me watching sports and cheering on my favorite teams, the Dallas Stars and the USWNT soccer games!
