Somehow I Manage: A Michael Scott Story about Tom Baker

Okay, so I had no idea what to title this post, so I figured a little nonsense would be best. As of December 1, my professional career at CrossFit Sanitas will be coming to a close. After 7 years of managing the gym, it’s simply time for a change.

I’m excited to pass along the reins to Claire Mulholland, who many of you know because over the past two years, she and her husband have been Sanitas members, she’s worked at the front desk and she’s consistently managed our social media. Claire, Melissa, Dwight and I have been working over the last few weeks to make this a seamless transition for everyone.

This all started with a Craigslist ad I responded to a couple of weeks after moving to Colorado in 2012. I met our owner Melissa that day at the construction site of a building that Sanitas today calls home, and the rest is history! Sanitas has been the source of so many friendships, laughs, adventures, challenges, learnings and pretty much anything else life can throw at a person over 7 years.

Sometimes it’s all a blur. But more often, it’s a complete reflection on so many relationships and moments of growth that have made me the human I am today. Let’s just say that I’m lucky to have never really had a “job” in the last 7 years. I mean, to witness thousands of people over the years grow, challenge themselves, learn, cry, struggle, have babies, do things never thought to be possible, even 2 marriage proposals on the main floor — I can’t thank you all enough for being a continued source of inspiration in so many ways.

Change is scary but I’m excited for what it brings. What’s next is still a question mark. I’ll be taking some time off to reflect on that question a bit more and lock down a plan for what’s to come. Do not fret, there is no good-bye to be said here. I will still see you all at WODs and events in and out of the gym — but now as a fellow member of the best gym ever!

More about Claire

Claire and her husband Tim (who was a professional Muy Thai fighter in Thailand) have been members at Sanitas for about 2 years now. She’s managed our social media over the last two years and she worked at the front desk for nearly a year before leaving last spring to help run a local charity – The Vertile Foundation – focused on impoverished children. She also worked at another CrossFit gym in Boulder before joining us, and prior to that she was a marketing and PR professional. Like me, she’s passionate about the community at Sanitas.

Just like all the other members in this gym, we’re a resource to support one another in so many ways, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything — unless it’s to buy a FitAID, won’t be able to help with that. Again, thank you all for everything. It’s truly been a pleasure.

Send-Off Event with Tom: The Great Tom Baker Bake Off (+ WOD)

We’re going to blow it up big — baked goods and a WOD! I know. A real rager. You’re welcome.

So what’s the plan? Meet us at CrossFit Sanitas on Dec. 7th at 3:30 p.m. for a super fun group workout that I’ll program, and then stay after to hangout, have a drink, and try some awesome baked goods in our first-ever Baked at CrossFit Contest!
